UNC Charlotte Begins PORTAL Building

The University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNCC) has come up with the financing for a new $37 million research and development building, without the help of the state legislature. The Partnership, Outreach, and Research for Accelerated Learning (PORTAL) Building is being built at University City on the 102-acre Charlotte Research Institute (CRI) campus.

As part of the University’s Technology Transfer Office the 95,000-sqft building will house the Ben Craig Center, a business incubator. Other features include: 3,000-sqft Information Technology (IT) laboratory space, commercial office tenant space including a retail/food service facility, a high bay precision metrology lab with heavy environmental controls, and a 10,000-sqft certified Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) capable of housing Department of Defense (DoD) top secret level IT requirements.
